Welcome to the ALAA Home Page

Founded in 1969, the Association of Legal Aid Attorneys/UAW 2325 is the oldest and largest major union of lawyers in United States, and is made up of 650 Legal Aid Society staff attorneys who each year represent some 300,000 indigent New Yorkers in criminal, civil and juvenile cases.

Our organization is committed to maintaining the Legal Aid system as a professonal, dynamic, and quality resource for the people of New York. We recognize that the key to these goals is to have a strong union. But we can't stop there--we must take an active role in the issues of the day, whether it be attempts to contract out legal representation to private firms or to defend constitutional and democratic rights.
