ALAA Statement on CAMBA, Inc’s Retaliatory Elimination of IT Department on Strike
Brooklyn, NY – CAMBA IT Worker’s Union, a unit of the Association of Legal Advocates and Attorneys — UAW Local 2325, condemns in the strongest terms CAMBA’s unprecedented action of eliminating the entirety of its IT department and workforce, many of whom have been on strike for eight weeks.
On January 6th, 2026, after refusing to schedule a bargaining session amidst the strike, CAMBA finally met the IT Union at the bargaining table. Once there, Management coldly informed the Union’s bargaining committee that CAMBA would be eliminating the entire IT department, including its striking workers, and replacing them with an outside contractor as of June 2026.
“We can see this transparently for what it really is: union-busting,” said CAMBA IT Union Bargaining Committeeman Rafael F. “As a CAMBA employee of twenty-seven years, I know this has nothing to do with efficiency or cost-savings. CAMBA management is infuriated that CAMBA workers bravely and rightly unionized to demand better working conditions.”
A majority of CAMBA’s IT employees have invested more than a decade at the Brooklyn-based non-profit; three union members recently surpassed 27 years in the department. “CAMBA has betrayed their stated values. Despite whatever statements they make about serving the Brooklyn’s community, today we saw that they’re unafraid to retaliate against actual New Yorkers with families and lives. This retaliatory action uproots the families and lives of the Brooklynites who have built the CAMBA’s technological backbone over decades,” said Bargaining Committeeman Jose D.
The Union plans to file an Unfair Labor Practice and is exploring all legal recourse available to halt these retaliatory actions.
